Tour of Assisi PDF Print E-mail

We estimate that to fully explore Assisi, one would take at least 2 days!
Therefore we will give only indications of various tours to do in Assisi.
For further details and organization of tours customized according to your needs and interests please contact us using the Contact Us page.

TOUR "HIT AND RUN" (2 hours and 30 minutes) *

-Meet the guide at the parking lot of Porta Nuova (so the path is all downhill)
-Enter the city through the medieval Porta Nuova.
-Visit the Basilica of St. Clare **.
-Visit the New Church **, where lie the remains of the family home of St. Francis.
-Short stop in Piazza del Comune, where you can admire the two Municipal Buildings and the Temple of Minerva.
Walk-about 10 minutes to reach the BASILICA OF S. FRANCIS **.

* The duration of the tour is indicative: if the time available was more or less, you can tailor the tour to the needs of the group.
** The two churches (Upper and Lower Church) can be visited either wirh pre-rented headphones, or without headphones, which precludes explanation inside the churches. For the visit you should always follow the rules, respecting the times of liturgical celebrations.

TOUR "HIT AND RUN" + BASILICA OF SAINT MARY OF THE ANGELS (3 hours)

We visit also the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli within which is kept the PORZIUNCOLA, the heart of Franciscan spirituality.

TOUR "A DAY IN ASSISI" (6 hours)

-MORNING: same programme as the Tour "Hit and Run"

-AFTERNOON *:

-Visit of SAN DAMIANO, which was the monastery of Santa Chiara and the place where the wooden Crocefisso spoke to Saint Francis, guiding him toward his vocation.
Visit of the EREMO DELLE CARCERI, an ancient building surrounded by the greenery of Mount Subasio, the place where Francis and his brothers went to retire in meditation.

* Due to the very narrow road, these sites are accessible only by using taxi-busses which can be booked in advance or on site, depending on availability.
The convent of San Damiano is also accessible on foot, but we recommend this route only to people able to walk properly as it is steep road.

Other places to visit:

Maggiore Fortress (admission fee)
Museum Pinacoteca (admission fee)
Archaeological Museum (admission fee)
Museum of Tesoro della Basilica di S. Francesco (admission fee)
Porziuncola Museum (admission fee)
